How Much Do Commercial Outdoor Benches Cost in Canada? (2026 Guide)

If you've started pricing commercial outdoor benches, you've probably noticed the range is enormous. One bench costs $300. Another that looks broadly similar costs $1,200. A third quotes at $2,000 and the manufacturer won't publish a price at all.

Here's what actually drives those differences, and what you should expect to budget in Canada in 2026.

Typical Price Ranges

These are per-bench prices for commercial-grade outdoor seating, not residential patio furniture.

Category Typical Price Range (CAD) What You Get
Entry-level $300 – $600 Basic pressure-treated wood or light steel; short warranty; residential-grade hardware
Mid-range $600 – $1,000 Better materials, commercial hardware, longer warranty, more colour and size options
Premium $1,000 – $2,000+ Recycled plastic or premium hardwood, 15–20 year warranties, heavy-gauge construction
Specialty / custom $2,000+ Modular systems, integrated planters, custom sizing or bespoke design

Note that these are product prices only. Freight, installation, anchoring, and site preparation are typically additional.

What Actually Drives the Price

Material

This is the single largest factor.

Pressure-treated softwood is the cheapest option and the least durable in Canadian conditions. Steel and aluminum cost more and last longer structurally, but face rust and thermal comfort issues. Recycled plastic costs more upfront than wood and less than premium hardwood, with the longest maintenance-free lifespan. Hardwoods like ipe or teak sit at the top of the price range and still require periodic oiling.

Warranty length

Warranty length is one of the more honest proxies for expected quality, because manufacturers price warranty risk into the product.

A bench with a 1-year warranty and a bench with a 20-year warranty are not the same product, even if the photos look similar. The manufacturer offering twenty years has done the math on failure rates and priced accordingly.

Weight and material thickness

Heavier benches use more material. A 90 lb bench and a 190 lb bench of the same length have meaningfully different amounts of material in them — which affects both durability and resistance to theft or vandalism.

Weight is one of the easier specs to compare across quotes and one of the harder ones for a manufacturer to fudge.

Size and capacity

Longer benches cost more, though not proportionally — a 6'7" bench typically costs less than two 4'11" benches, so if capacity is the goal, longer units usually deliver better value per seat.

Colour and finish options

Standard colours cost less than specialty finishes. In our own catalogue, for example, the price difference between a standard brown and a specialty two-tone finish can be several hundred dollars per bench, driven by manufacturing complexity rather than markup.

Origin and shipping

Domestically manufactured products often have shorter lead times and lower freight costs. Imported products may offer manufacturing quality or design not available domestically, but carry longer lead times and higher shipping costs.

Costs Beyond the Bench

Budget for these, because they surprise people.

Freight. Commercial benches are heavy — often 90–200 lbs each. Freight for a set of five can be substantial, and delivery is typically curbside, not placed.

Installation. Some benches arrive assembled; many arrive as kits. Factor in labour hours.

Anchoring. Ground anchors, concrete pads, or bolt-down hardware are usually sold separately.

Site preparation. A level, stable, well-drained surface. If you're placing benches on soft ground, you may need pads or footings.

Ongoing maintenance. For wood, budget staining or sealing every 1–2 years plus periodic board replacement. For recycled plastic and metal, budget occasional cleaning only.

Total Cost of Ownership: A Worked Example

Consider two options for a five-bench installation over fifteen years.

Option A: Pressure-treated wood at $450 per bench

  • Purchase: $2,250
  • Staining every 2 years (7 cycles × ~$100/bench in materials and labour): $3,500
  • One full replacement at year 10: $2,250
  • Approximate 15-year total: $8,000

Option B: Recycled plastic at $900 per bench

  • Purchase: $4,500
  • Cleaning only: minimal
  • No replacement expected within 15 years
  • Approximate 15-year total: $4,500–$5,000

The wood option costs half as much on day one and roughly 60% more over fifteen years. These are illustrative figures — your actual maintenance labour rates will vary — but the pattern holds across most real-world scenarios.

Why Some Manufacturers Won't Publish Prices

You'll encounter a lot of "request a quote" in this category. There are legitimate reasons:

  • Freight varies enormously by destination and quantity
  • Many products are made to order with configurable options
  • Volume discounts make a single published price misleading
  • Some manufacturers sell exclusively through dealers with regional pricing

It's not always a red flag, but it does make comparison shopping harder. When requesting quotes, ask for product price and freight separately so you can compare like with like.

Buying in Sets

Most commercial suppliers offer volume discounts, commonly starting around 5 units and increasing at 10 or more. If your project needs multiple benches, ordering together rather than piecemeal typically saves 5–10%.

Our outdoor furniture collection is sold in sets of five, with pricing that reflects volume rates rather than single-unit pricing.

Budgeting Guidance

For a typical Canadian park, campus, or commercial property installation:

  • Tight budget, short horizon: $400–600 per bench, wood, expect maintenance
  • Balanced: $700–1,000 per bench, recycled plastic or quality metal, minimal maintenance
  • Long-term / low-maintenance priority: $900–1,400 per bench, premium recycled plastic with 20-year warranty
  • Design-forward or modular: $1,500+ per bench or element

Add roughly 15–25% on top of product cost for freight, anchoring, and installation, depending on your location and site conditions.
